The 88th Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment in the United States Army. It was created as the 88th Infantry Airbone Battalion on 10 October 1941 as the US Army's first glider glider infantry unit. Attached to the Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, the unit was authorised a strength of 27 officers and 500 enlisted men. In May 1942 it was moved to Fort Bragg North Carolina and expanded into the 88th Glider Infantry Regiment
In April 1943 the Regiment was assigned to the along with the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and 326th Glider Infantry Regiment.
Assigned to the 13th Airborne Division, the regiment was combined with the to form a three battalion 326th Glider Infantry Regiment in March 1945.
