Beer sommelier
A beer sommelier, (sometimes known as a 'cicerone', which is a private trade marked organization rather than a general term) is a professional who works in the alcoholic beverage industry specializing in the service and knowledge of beer. This knowledge includes an understanding of styles, brewing, constituent ingredients, history of beer and brewing, glassware, draught systems, and food pairing. The profession is relatively new but growing.
There are a number of private organizations that offer courses and certification as a beer sommelier, not always using this term, but one of their own creation (and trade mark). The Siebel Institute of Technology offers one such certification program. Beer connoisseur Ray Daniels also has a certification program, with "Master Cicerone" as the highest rank that can be achieved.
