Allegro Papagayo is an all-inclusive resort that is located in Costa Rica's Gulf of Papagayo. Four Seasons and the are in the same exclusive neighborhood as this resort. There are 300 rooms in the entire resort with rates of up to $150 USD/night. Playa Negra is one of the local beaches and was a featured location in the American motion picture The Endless Summer II.
Summary
The resort is near active volcanoes and an unspoiled rainforest. There are green, gray, and black sands (consisting of lava fragments) that make this resort into an explorer's paradise. There is a rugged beauty across the resort that have the buildings form a chain to the black sand beach below. Everything from aerobics to scuba diving are included at no additional cost. This resort is located just 30 minutes from Liberia, an important city in Costa Rica due to the presence of the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport. Diners have a choice between an international buffet filled with meats in addition to fruits and vegetables, an Italian restaurant (dress code required), and a Tex-Mex restaurant.
In 2008, the resort had to temporary shut down due to a problem dealing with their sewage. The Ministry of Health declared that the hotel must be cleared and new guests could not be accepted in addition to new reservations. At the time of the closer, sewage trucks could be seen leaving the property. The residents of the Guanacaste province were protesting against several forms of contamination which originated from the waste products from the resort.
However, the sewage issue was eventually solved and the resort was re-opened to the public. Travel deals to the resort were officially resumed by July 18, 2009.
