Hamburg–Köln Express

Hamburg-Köln-Express

The Hamburg-Köln-Express GmbH (HKX) is a German railway passenger transportation company with the focus on long-distance traffic. The company is based in Berlin. HKX was founded in October 2009 as a joint venture by RDC Deutschland GmbH, an affiliate of USA-based Railroad Development Corp., Locomore rail GmbH & CO. KG and UK railway investor Michael Schabas. The company’s aim is to offer long-distance railway passenger services in Germany. The ticket prices are to be flexible and competitive with those of the Deutsche Bahn (DB), nevertheless at the same time a good service will be offered.

Pilot Connection

HKX plans to begin with offering daily long-distance railway services in the morning, at noon and in the evening between Hamburg and Cologne. With 4:06 hours the travel duration is comparable with IC or ICE courses of DB.

Slot Connection

Start

The starting date for operations was initially scheduled for August 2010 but will shift to mid 2011 as there were unresolved slot conflicts between Keolis and HKX in the access application process with DB infrastructure affiliate DB Netz. After Keolis withdrew their applications in April 2010, a framework contract was signed in June 2010. The frame work contract has duration until December 2015.
