The 1982–83 season was Stoke's 83rd season of league football and the 50th in the First Division.
Overview
The 1982–83 season started with a flurry of transfer activity who saw Lee Chapman join Arsenal for £500,000. With that money Stoke brought in George Berry, Mickey Thomas and Port Vale trio Mark Chamberlain, his brother Neville Chamberlain and young goalkeeper Mark Harrison. Mark mould go on and earn an England cap whilst at Stoke and become a fan favourite, while Neville failed to make an impact, as did Mark Harrison.
On the pitch Stoke were playing good football and resulted in a number of exciting displays including a 4–4 classic with Luton Town. Stoke finished in a comfortable mid-table position of 11th and a increase in attendance. However the season was overshadowed due to the death of chairman Percy Axon.
